What
makes Mango Design unique
Mango Design is the natural extension
and amalgamation of my creative and technical mind. The
journey has been an exciting ride!
In college I studied broadcasting, film,
and graphic art graduating with a BA in Communications.
After college, though, with unique people
skills developed from a summer
selling books door to door with the famous Southwestern
Company [While
in high school I wanna add!]
and a genetic predisposition to be comfortable talking
with anyone I met, post college I pursued a sales career
that rewards such traits, finding myself as National Marketing
Director for a large Atlanta corporation by my early 30's.
In 1984 that momentum was interrupted
when I re-evaluated my life in light of the greatest change
in my life, that of becoming a Christian.
At that point traditional career goals
became secondary to following Jesus and His plan
for my life and my family. As
a result He gave me the career of a lifetime...as a bush
pilot for Him over the rainforests of Eastern Ecuador with Mission
Aviation Fellowship (a.k.a "MAF")
.
From
1990 thru 1993 I went to flight school, receiving my Commercial
Pilots License as well as Airframe & Powerplant Mechanics
License. From there I joined Mission Aviation
Fellowship and after MAF advanced flight training and
a year of Spanish language school in Costa Rica, along
with my family, we "landed" in Shell Ecuador. In
Ecuador I flew 3,000 hours for MAF over the
lush jungles at the headwaters of the Amazon River carrying
missionaries, medical teams and jungle dwellers including
Shuar, Atshuar, Quichua, and Waorani Indians.
In the evenings, after my plane was back
in the hangar, I began studying and developing a new skill
set in web design, development, along with digital streaming
video and digital photography (I'd had a Nikon F2 film
camera for years before though)
which culminated in my first
website, Junglepilot.org. This
chronicled my jungle adventures with streaming, video,
a blog, photo essays, and regular image rich
newsletters to friends and supporters back in the US.
Just
for grins, here is one of my first streaming video clips
of me landing on a short jungle airstrip (circa 2000)
which was pieced together with 30 second clips from one
of the early digital still cameras that shot video. CLICK

With
these skills, my background in marketing management and
lots of experience as a field pilot, in 2002 I was asked
to join the MAF Recruiting Department as their Southeast
Recruiter and to develop their first website (mafrecruiting.org).
What happened next birthed Mango Design.
Once in the US, people began noticing
my work for MAF and began contacting me as a consultant
and also asked me to take on various free lance projects. I
never advertised my services or looked for work, however
free lance web consulting and development market was booming
and opportunities to work with quality organizations, ministries
and companies kept coming. Thus in 2004 I officially hung
out my shingle and Mango Design was born.
Since then I have worked with clients
all over the US.
Growth has brought about opportunities
...internships
Mango Design has grown to the point that
I am looking for talented people seeking that first
real-life project they can sink their teeth into and add
to their portfolio.
Our location so close to Auburn University
and their acclaimed Art and Industrial
Design departments
has brought several such people our way already which helps
keep our work fresh with new ways of looking at and meeting
clients design objectives.
Specifically
Mango Design is interested in meeting folks with strong
skills in web design (no Front Page experts please;-),
graphic arts, video production and PHP/ XML/ JavaScript.
Call Sandy or contact us via our contact
form if you are interested in interning with Mango Design.
